Gastroenteritis, also referred to as stomach flu, is inflammation of the stomach and intestinal lining, which causes diarrhea and vomiting. Norovirus is the most common cause of gastroenteritis in adults.

In bacterial gastro, the symptoms are similar but the fever is often higher, stomach cramps are worse and diarrhoea can have blood and mucus in it.
